How to Make Your “Offline” Printer “Online” on Windows 10?

Your Printers can have a status of either offline or online while connected with Windows 10 system. You can print your documents only when your printer is available and ready for print. But sometimes, you might see your printer goes offline, it doesn’t mean it has been removed. There can be multiple reasons that set your printer in offline state. It can be because of an error during printing your documents or an issue with the driver. Windows OS can set the status of the printer as offline if there seems to be any problem. You can prevent your printer from misusing by turning it offline. But to bring again in working state, you need to turn it Online. For this, you can apply any of the following methods:

Method 1: Restart Printer & Check for connectivity

If the printer is left online for some time, it might go into an idle state. It may set your printer offline after some time of being idle. In such a case, turn off your printer and wait for about 1 minute. Then, check whether the problem has been resolved.

Next, check whether the printer is connected to a power source. Also, check whether it is properly connected to the computer. Because sometimes your printer may be in offline state or even disconnected if the cables are not attached properly.

Method 2: Change Printer Status

You can even manually change the state of your printer. For this, you have to go through the steps given below:

  • Firstly, press the Windows + I key together to open Windows Settings.

  • Select the printer in which you are facing the issue or that you want to bring in online state and then click on Open queue.
  • In the Print Queue window, click on the Printer Offline button. This will display a message indicating, “This action will change the printer from offline to online.”
  • Confirm the status of your printer and set it online.

Method 3: Run Printer Troubleshooter

Printer packages have their own troubleshooter that resolves printer-related issues in your system. This Troubleshooter can help you to resolve driver or connectivity issues, restart printer-related services, and much more.

  • To run the printer troubleshooter, navigate to Settings > Update and Security > Troubleshoot
  • Click on the Printer Troubleshooter option to run it.

This will help you to fix the offline status of your printer.

Method 4: Remove All Pending Print Jobs

Removing all the pending print jobs can also troubleshoot any printer-related issues. For this:

  • Open the print queue and choose the Printer from the bar located at the top.
  • Click on the “Cancel All Documents” option from this menu.
  • If any print job is left, it will be normally cleared by restarting both your PC and printer.

Method 5: Remove and Add Printer

If none of the above methods has helped, you can remove the printer from the system and add it again to bring your printer in a working state. It is a very simple process that may also include downloading the driver and other related OEMs applications.
